Dating deformation and exhumation in orogenic settings

My research career has focused on contributing to tectonic reconstructions of collisional (Himalaya, Trans-Hudson) and accretionary (Appalachian, Cordillera) orogens by constraining the timing of deformation and exhumation. To do this, I integrate structural and metamorphic petrology data with a wide range of geo- and thermochronometers including U-Pb, Lu-Hf, Ar-Ar, AFT, U-Th-He and Rb-Sr decay systems applied to diverse minerals. My active projects in the Canadian Cordillera and Canadian Appalachians pair focused studies to determine kinematics, timing and conditions of major reactivated fault zones with regional studies on exhumation and landscape evolution. I look forward to meeting many of you and am keen to learn from UiB’s expertise in structural geology, thermochronology and geodynamic modeling.
Photo is from field work this past summer. I had the opportunity to sample faults and gold veins in a historic (1930’s-1940’s) gold mine at the foot of a glacier about 60 km from Juneau, Alaska.
