Title: Sub, Intra, Supra: Intermediate Depth Earthquakes all around the Hellenic slab

Abstract: We are conducting an earthquake relocation study in connection with 3-D traveltime tomography in the Western Hellenic subduction zone. This subduction system is a natural laboratory for comparing different subduction environments regarding the occurrence of intermediate depth seismicity and connected petrology variations. The systems suitability for such a comparison stems from the combination of both continental and oceanic subduction in a spatially compact domain in Western Greece. We want to interpret the locations of intermediate depth earthquakes in conjunction with high-resolution structural slab information from receiver function studies. Our first robust results suggest that the WHSZ hosts sub-, intra-, and supra-slab earthquakes in the Southern, continental subduction part, while the Northern part is nearly quiet. We present newest P-velocity and Vp/Vs-ratio images of the 3-D traveltime tomography study of the area which reveals additional 3-D structure. Afterwards, we invite everyone to discuss conflicting models and ideas of the intermediate depth seismicity and slab structure in the WHSZ.
