Wojtek Nemec Memorial Geolunch programme
This geolunch hosts a session dedicated to former GEO Professor, Wojtek Nemec, who sadly passed away last month. Wojtek arrived at UiB in 1984 and became a full professor in 1993 where he supervised more than 50 MSc and 20 PhD candidates to the competition of their degrees until his retirement in 2017. Alongside this he maintained outstanding research work making him an internationally renowned sedimentologist focussed on mass flows, slope process and conglomerates. After hearing the news of Wojtek’s passing, Flavio approached us with the excellent idea to host a memorial seminar hosting some former colleagues of Wojtek. The session will contain a short video interview with Ron Steel, former NorskHydro researcher, UiB professor and now Emeritus at UT Austin who hired Wojtek, some words from colleagues at UiB (William Helland-Hansen and Atle Rotevatn) followed by some short talks of memories from some of Wojtek’s former colleagues (Sergio Longhitano, Massimiliano Ghinassi and Katarina Gobo).
